A man moving from one area to another in Maungdaw has been severely assaulted by police, according to our correspondent.
Yunus (30), s/o Ali was travelling from Maundaw tin mile (three miles) to char mile (four miles) at around Monday midnight when police stopped him at a checkpoint and demanded to see his permission.
When Yunus protested that he was traveling only for a short distance, the police dragged him out of the vehicle and assaulted him. He was then taken to custody.
He was released at around 5 am after paying 30,000 kyats.
