A Rohingya man has been critically injured in a police assault in Mrauk U.
25 year Shungula was returning to his village in Jula para owhen security personal intercepted him at around 6pm and asked what he was doing so late. When Shungula replied he was coming back from a Rakhine village where he went to buy some commodities, police started beating him up.
In sheer terror, Shungula ran away and hid in a nearby house. But police pulled him out and continued to beat him mercilessly.
They left him in an unconscious state. He is still in a critical condition having received multiple injuries including the head area.
Rohingyas in Mrauk U face severe restrictions in earning a livelihood by going out of their villages. As a result of restrictions imposed by the authorities, many have problems arranging even a single meal every day.
