A Rohingya man sold his two nieces to traffickers in Bangladesh.
The man responsible for the crime has been identified only as Abdus Salam, a Rohingya refugee residing in Chokoria of Bangladesh. He has been absconding since this incident.
The two cousins accompanied Abdus Salam to Chittagong for jobs as housemaids. Salam had convinced their mothers, Halima Begum and Solima Begum that he could arrange jobs for them at a fairly decent wage with a good family in the port city of Bangladesh.
Halima and Solima, two sisters have been in desperate financial situation after both their husbands were kidnapped by traffickers off the coast in the Bay of Bengal. So they opted to trust their cousin Salam and unwillingly let their daughters aged 20 and 15 to go to Chittagong.
Once they went away, all communications stopped. After asking around, it was confirmed that the two young women have been sold by Salam to traffickers.
