Burma has declared a state of emergency in Kokang as fighting between the army and ethnic rebels has forced tens of thousands of civilians to flee.
Between 30,000 to 50,000 refugees have escaped to the neighbouring Chinese province of Yunnan.
Fighting between the Kokang rebel group Myanmar National Democratic Alliance and government troops broke out on February 9. The government responded with airstrikes on civilian targets.
The Kokang region is inhabited by ethnic Han Chinese who had been discriminated by the government for a long time leading to frequent hostilities in the past.
