Government collaborators have gathered in the restive village tract of Kiladong in Maungdaw South to choose a new Aishwaramu.
On May 2, Md Sultan Ahmed, the former village headman was killed by assailants in his home.
As locals did not attend the meeting which was only for government collaborators, there is no way to know for sure the name of the new Aishwaramu. However by Sunday afternoon, there were rumours in the village that a notorious Rakhine headman Aung Zafru, shall be the new Aishwaramu of the area.
In January 2014, this Rakhine headman ordered the beheading of eight Rohingya day labourers who had come to this area without government permission. A few days later, he was one of the masterminds of the mob attack that killed scores of Muslim women and children in the most infamous massacres of recent memory.
Villagers are also saying that Shah Alam, another infamous tabbe will be the assistant to the Aishwaramu.
