Hlun Htein forces entered the village tract of Sommoinna in Maungdaw South on Thursday and abused villagers for not registering for the green card.
Sources say a Hlun Htein commander has recently been assigned to the area for forcing Rohingyas to register for the green card by ‘hook or by crook’.
The commander identified by some villagers as Aung Min Thwe appears determined to make sure Rohingyas sign up for the green card as fast as possible.
During the raid, the Hlun Htein asked some community leaders to turn up. When they came, they were shouted at and verbally abused for turning up late.
One of the men, Selim Ullah was physically assaulted and locked up. He was further beaten up in custody thus getting multiple injuries throughout his body.
Later his family members showed up and said they were ready to register for the green card. Selim was released at around midnight.
May more Rohingyas in the area signed up for the green card fearing torture from Hlu Htein forces.
