Military arrested 12 Rohingya shepherds, eight of them children, according to our correspondent.
The 12 shepherds were taking 16 cows to the Naraing Chung bazar from Parayan Shong in Buthidaung. The cows belonged to a Rakhine man named Maung Jee who had contracted the Rohingya shepherds to transfer the animals to the market.
However the military says that they don’t have permission to travel to the Naraing Chung bazar. They transferred the cows and the shepherds to the BGP. They however took one of the cows and ate it.
The eight children were released after the payment of 800,000 kyats. The four grown ups are still in BGP custody. They are Ilias, Abdul Rashid, Abdul Ghani and Abdul Karim.
Villagers are afraid that they will be sentenced to long term prisons. In early January, 11 men received rigorous prison sentences up to five years for leaving their zones.
