A Rohingya rickshaw puller has been brutally assaulted by the military in Akyab.
On Sunday night, the rickshaw puller was dropping a passenger near a military checkpoint besides the Rakhine village of Marmaji at around 8.30pm. The checkpoint is in place to prevent movement of Rohingya Muslims.
The rickshaw puller did not cross the checkpoint but for some reason, four soldiers seized him and started assaulting him. He was then taken inside the camp.
Later a source said the military had handed the rickshaw puller to local Rohingyas.
Locals allege that since the appointment of a new major, persecution of Rohingyas have increased.
