The military is conducting night raids on a daily basis in the village of Hawar Bil in Maungdaw South.
During the raid, around 2 to 3 Rohingya Muslims are arrested everyday. They are taken to the military base and held until family members can come up with a fine. The amount depends on the financial ability of the family.
The raids which have been going for a month is driving many villagers away. Many men don’t sleep in their homes at night for fear of being arrested.
In a separate incident, BGP made a string of arrests in Young Chong, Buthidaung last week. The arrested men were implicated with Bangladesh phones. They were later released after payment of 300,000 kyats.
