Military has surrounded the Char Kombhu bazar area of Maungdaw and cracked down on Rohingyas inside the neighbourhood.
On Wednesday, a man from Sidhar para in the town came to the market place wearing a green cap. Two military personal came up to him and accused him of wearing a military cup. The man said he was wearing it to protect him from the rain. In reply, one of the soldiers said that the Rohingya man must have killed an army officer and taken his cap! They then proceeded to brutally assault him, kicking him in the head and the ribs.
In a desperate attempt, the man pushed one of the soldiers away and tried to escape. It is not clear whether he managed to get away, but the soldiers called for back up on the phone crying that the Rohingyas were attacking them. Within minutes, more than a hundred soldiers turned up and they sealed the entire area.
All Rohingyas inside the area are currently surrounded by the army.
