Ankara, The European Rohingya Council: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Turkey hosted The European Rohingya Council (ERC) delegate in Ankara on 27 February 2017. His Excellency Deputy Undersecretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Umit Yardim welcomed the delegate (Mr. Khairul Amin, Mr. Mohammed Ibraheem and Dr. Khubybe) headed by former chairman of ERC (current chairman of Board of Trustee) in his office.
During the meeting the ERC delegate shared information on current crisis of Rohingya. The scale and extent of percussion of Rohingya by Myanmar armed forces have been highlighted during the discussion. The delegate pointed out two important issues.
Firstly the delegate highlighted how the government of Turkey can exercise the diplomatic relationship with Myanmar to immediately stop the ongoing persecution of innocent Rohingya, and to mobilize aid delivery to the affected Rohingya in Rakhine state and in Bangladesh refugee camps.
Secondly, the delegate discussed the long term solution to the Rohingya crisis: building interfaith and interethnic civil society, addressing the root cause of the crisis, mobilizing international community to put pressure to Myanmar government so that Myanmar government welcome the belongingness of Rohingya to Myanmar society.
Upon the initiation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegate met with various partners such as Anadolu Agency, Turkish Scholarship Department, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, Presidency of Religious Affairs, Turkish Co-operation and Co-ordination Agency and finally TRT world. The delegate shared information related to Rohingya crisis and discussed how each of the partners play a role in helping Rohingya so that Rohingya can live peacefully in Myanmar.
The delegate handed over the applications of new Rohingya students who applied for Turkish Scholarship Program for Master and Bachelor Program.
Finally, the delegate thanks to the government and people of Turkey for the solidarity and support to the Rohingya people.
