Activities of Rakhine miscreants are discouraging local Rohingyas from going to Buthidaung market towns.
Sources say due to poverty and food shortages caused by movement restrictions, the number of Rohingya shoppers during the Eid time is markedly less than previous years. But the few who go to the market towns are harassed by Rakhine miscreants.
As a result of the threats of bodily harm, for the last few days, few Rohingya men have gone to the market towns. Some who went defiantly have been beaten by the miscreants.
But the women who are going have to put up with vulgar slur and harassment from the Rakhines.
The Rakhine miscreants are not from the locality creating much speculation about their identity. They carry out the provocative activities in full view of the police and BGP thus giving credence to the view there is an organised attempt to provoke the Rohingyas to violence during the Eid season.
