Attempt to take over land
Burma Times Correspondent: April 07, 2015
Rakhine nationalists have been taking positions outside a Muslim village in Kyauktaw since Saturday.
The move by the Rakhine men, many of them known perpetuators of the 2012 ethnic cleansing has created terror in the village of Foydar para.
In 2012, Rakhine nationalists snatched almost everything belonging to approximately 330 households in this area. All the villagers have left is the land, but now Rakhine nationalists want it too.
Locals say that a year ago, some Rakhines had asked the army to help them take over the area. But back then the army said that there was too much international scrutiny and violence against Rohingya Muslims would draw unwanted pressure.
However, this time, the army along with the police seems to be backing the Rakhine nationalists.
The blockade has meanwhile left the local population without water. The village is a dry area and locals need to go outside to get water, something that has not been possible due to the blockade.
