Men from ‘model’ villages took away cows and assaulted two Rohingyas protesting the theft.
The incident happened at Chang gana, Rathidaung on Monday.
At around 11am, three men took away two cows grazing in the fields belonging to Rohingya Muslims. When a shepherd boy Rubi Alam (12) looking after the cows asked for an explanation, all he got was a tight slap in the face.
Later when the owner Anjul Hossain (47) went to the model village, he was told that his cows have been grazing on their paddy villages. When the shepherd boy protested that this was not the case, both of them were beaten up this time.
A local representative rescued the Rohingyas and their cows with a payment of 50,000 kyats.
Incidentally model villages in Arakan are inhabited by Buddhists brought from other areas of Burma to balance out the Muslim population in the region.
