Model villagers have robbed a Rohingya fishing expedition at Sandu para, Rathidaung, according to our local correspondent.
Rahim Ullah, s/o Solim Ullah, Shukkur s/o Saiful Alam and Amanullah s/o Noor Ahmed were returning from fishing at around 3.30 am on Thursday when they were stopped by a criminal gang from a neighbouring model village.
The robbers seized all the fish and the fishing nets.
Model villages refer to settlements inhabited by Buddhists brought by the government from other areas in Burma to balance out the Muslim population in Arakan.
Similar incidents in the past have created suspicions that there are organised gangs to prey on Rohingya fishermen.
