Buddhist monks in Mamra Kyauktaw have seized one acre of land belonging to a Rohingya Muslim.
The monks of Nagra para in the area told Liakot Ali that this land does not belong to the Muslims but to the Buddhists. One of the monks also claimed that the land was registered in the name of his mother.
Liakot went to the police on Saturday but they did not listen to his complaints.
Other villagers in the area fear that the monks will seize more Rohingya lands. They say without their lands, they don’t have access to any other livelihood and will face starvation, a phenomenon that is prevalent in other villages.
