A Rohingya man was murdered while another has been critically injured by a Rakhine mob in Mrauk U.
On Monday at around 4pm, 20 year Md Sadek and 18 year Shomsu Alam went to the fields near their village in Shisharuk to collect grass when they were attacked by a Rakhine mob armed with sharp instruments.
Sadek fell to the blow of the attackers and died, while Shomsu ran away from the attackers. But in his hurry, Shomsu could not run towards the Rohingya village but instead ended up in a nearby Rakhine settlement where villagers seized him and started beating him mercilessly.
Shomsu received serious injuries from the beatings of the mob.
Later he was handed over to the police who accused him of murdering Sadek. The police have rejected the incident of a mob attack and said the Muslim victims were both thieves who had fought between themselves.
Authorities generally do not acknowledge murders committed by Buddhist nationalists.
Sadek’s body was discovered the next day and bore multiple signs of beatings and stabbings. Local sources say it is apparent from the corpse that he died after immense torture
