Tun Tun Oo (55), a sympathiser of the student movement is in hiding after the information minister Ye Htut alleged him to be a Muslim instigator, according to our national correspondent.
The man nicknamed U Mote Sate (beard) for his distinctive appearance was a prominent appearance alongside his younger colleagues in the student protests. He stood up bravely during the police crackdown and helped students in the clash.
Later police went to his house in Pegu division to look for him thus forcing the man into hiding.
His family has been threatened by Buddhist nationalists in the area who also think he is a Muslim.
Tun Oo is however a Buddhist. But he says he sympathises with all oppressed people including Muslims. He however stressed on his Buddhist origins in an effort to deviate potential attacks on the beleaguered Muslim community of the country.
