Victim broke blockade
Burma Times Correspondent: March 30, 2015
A Rohingya man was beaten to death by a Rakhine mob and police in Shisha para, Akyab, according to our local correspondent.
The Muslim village is surrounded by Rakhine settlements from all sides. Since 2012, they have lived under a state of blockade and have been unable to move out of their village for a living. As a result they survive in near starvation circumstances.
On Friday night, six Rohingya men unable to stand the hungry cries of their children decided to go out of their village to fish. As they were fishing, some Rakhines saw them and raised a cry.
Within minutes, angry Rakhines started chasing the Muslims. All but one managed to flee.
The mob getting hold of the Muslim man beat him mercilessly and afterwards handed him to the police. The police also beat him brutally ultimately resulting in his death.
The man has been identified as Noor Mohammad (37).
His dead body has not been handed over by the police.
