Natala villagers took away four cows belonging to Rohingya Muslims on Sunday in Sarkhombhu, Maungdaw. When villagers went to the Natal village, they were cursed at and said the cows had strayed on to their fields and damaged their crops.
The owners of the cows were forced to pay 150,000 kyats as a fine. They were also forced to sign a bond saying the Natala are not extorting them but were taking damages for crops.
In another incident, Natala took away three cows from Godusera in Maungdaw South on Monday. The cows were given back to the owner after he paid 120,000 kyats.
