Villagers of Ang Dhang, Maungdaw South have been called to night duty for the first time in many years.
According to police officials, all Rohingya villages will have to be more vigilant and provide night guards.
Night duty is the norm of most villages. Now it is likely that all villages will have to provide night guards. Under this system, villagers are chosen on a rotary basis. However those who fall foul of authorities are often assigned night guard duty continuously.
Rohingyas complain this is an added burden especially when there is work around. Night guards don’t get payment and are often beaten by police and BGP.
