Police have been launching regular night raids in Hawar Dil, Maungdaw North since last Friday.
Every night, scores of policemen enter the village tract and assault anyone they can get their hands on. As a result, all the men now flee the area as darkness falls.
Locals say due to the monsoon season, sleeping in the hills and forests is an added burden. Many of the fugitives are becoming ill in the unfavourable monsoon terrain of Arakan state.
The villagers also say the increased presence of the military in the remote hills has made hiding more difficult for them.
The night operation started a day after Lawaka officials came to the village and told everyone to face severe consequences for not accepting the green card.
Rohingyas accepting the green card would have to register as Bengalis and foreigners.
