Rohingyas in Mrauk U township have been prevented access to the rivers, depriving them of the last remaining livelihood option.
Since the riots of 2012, fishing has been the only source of livelihood for the Rohingyas in this area as all land has been confiscated by the government and nationalist groups. But an order by the state government said that Rohingyas are not allowed to use the roads leading to the rivers.
The order has been effective since Saturday.
Since Eid day, many poor people including children have gone completely hungry.
Earlier when Rohingyas requested government officials the return of their agricultural lands, they were told that the land does not belong to them as they were foreigners. The officials also told them it was none of their business if they went hungry.
