A shopkeeper was arrested by police on human trafficking charges on Thursday.
Syed Alam from Hashurata, Maungdaw South was pointed out to the police by infamous government collaborator Saudia. Locals say he is innocent.
He was later released on the payment of half a million kyats.
According to our sources, the actual human trafficking ring is headed by Saudia himself. His accomplices Maulavi Bashir, Nur us Salam, Fazal, Rashid and Hashim run this trafficking ring protected by the BGP.
A Rakhine village headman in the area is also involved in the criminal syndicate.
Hashurata is one of the main trafficking points from where boat people are transported into the big Thailand bound ships waiting in the sea.
Whenever the number of willing migrants are short, and there is more space in the ship, the gang led by Saudia kidnap innocent people and force them on the ships. Many of the boys who stay in the local madrasa have been kidnapped by the traffickers. Maulavi Bashar is one of the teachers of this institution.
Saudia runs a reign of terror in this village tract. Many women have been raped by police and the collaborators in this region, all under the criminal arrangements made by Saudia.
