Rohingyas in Hashurata, Maungdaw South continue to suffer from assault and harassment perpetuated by an axis of Rakhine and Rohingya collaborators in the area backed by security forces.
Hashurata is well known as a hub for human trafficking and terror perpetuated by an infamous ring of collaborators headed by Sawdeya Oo. The notorious regime man was injured in a shooting in mid August and has yet to fully recover. But he is still believed to be operating from inside his home while his close associate Ayatollah has replaced him.
Ayatollah has replicated Sawdeya’s reign of terror and there have been little respite for Rohingyas in the area.
They are backed by a Rakhine politician Tha Naing, well known for his brutality against Rohingyas.
In the past three weeks, at least 28 Rohingyas have been charged in false allegations and forced to pay heavy fines.
The nexus of regime sympathisers have also turned Hashurata into a haven for human traffickers, the coastal village serving as a transit point for Rohingyas from Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathedaung.
Many including women and children have also been kidnapped from this area and forced into the Thailand bound ships against their will.
