Rathedaung Correspondent: Rohingya residents of villages under Rathedaung Township of Sittwe are denied travel permission by the immigration officials of Rathedaung nowadays, said a villager.
Sources said, Rohingya residents, U Naing Lin Kyaw and U Maung Than Naing of Lung Taung village of Singonthaing hamlet, Rathedaung Township wanted to accompany their respective children who are sitting for matriculation examination in Buthidaung High School from 9th of March 2016.
“On 5th of March 2016, Naing Lin Kyaw and Maung Than Naing submitted their photos and necessary particulars to the village administrator who went to the concerned immigration official U Sann Lain with the photos to take permission for those guardians of the students. But the village administrator was refused travel permission for the guardians of the students by the immigration official, according to the village administrator.
When the village administrator asked the reason of denying the permission, the immigration official of Rathedaung Township replied that the permission was denied because the applicants for permission are the so call Rohingya residents of the village and they also refuse to accept the term ‘Bangalee’ as ethnicity. That is the reason behind denial of travel permission but, if they accept the term ‘Bangalee’, travel permission will be issued to them” the village administrator said quoting the reply of immigration official.
The Rohingya residents expresse their concern that they are suffering various kind of disease as they are not able to receive treatment from hospital in Rathedaung, Buthidaung and Sittwe due to denial of travel permission by the immigration officer, according to a woman patient.
