Thai police arrested a notorious human trafficker on Wednesday.
Rahim Ullah son of Khair Hossain is also known as Azim Ullah in many circles. He is alleged to be one of the most brutal of traffickers in the community. He is believed to be from Hainda fara in Maungdaw North.
Rahim Ullah is accused to have killed numerous migrants by throwing them into the sea and in the jungle camps when their relatives delayed the payment. He also raped many women and instead of handing them over to their relatives often sold them into the sex industry of Thailand.
Rohingyas tortured by Rahim Ullah have expressed both satisfaction and worries over his arrest. On one hand they are happy that such a criminal has at last been captured. But on the other hand, they fear that he might use his contacts to gain freedom.
Rahim Ullah is also reputed to be a multi millionaire many times over and might buy his way out of prison, fears Rohingyas living in Thailand and Malaysia.
