A Rohingya Muslim has been killed and another wounded when police opened fire on them during a crackdown in Furma fara, North Maungdaw.
The operation in the village started at around mid day and lasted for almost four hours on Friday. During this time security forces could not find any other male in the area as they had fled anticipating a crackdown.
The crackdown happened in response to the murder of a government collaborator Syed Hossain on Wednesday night.
As security forces entered the village tract and launched a house by house search, they failed to locate any grown up male. In desperation they slapped some young children.
As they went to the ghat at around 2pm, they noticed two men in the distance and fired on them without warning. The firing killed Hashim s/o Syedul Amin.
His nephew Gura Amin sustained bullet injuries in the knee area. He has been taken by the police to their village in nearby Naffura.
The police have charged 20 well respected men with the murder of Syed Hossain.
Two brothers Md Farid and Md Shafi, s/o Ruhul Amin are the main accused in the murder.
