Plain-clothes security personal are detaining Rohingyas in Maungdaw town and asking them to show the green card.
Many Rohingyas have been intercepted by these plain cloth personal believed to be working for the Hlun Htein. They ask the Rohingyas to shw papers that is given when registering for the green card. So far very few Rohingyas in the area have registered for the green card and have thus been unable to show the required papers.
As a result till Saturday, dozens of Rohingyas have been assaulted by the Hlun Htein personal. They have also been fined 3000 kyats and warned they will be thrown into jail if they fail to show the green card.
A green card is a form of identification card given to naturalised citizens. The government regards Rohingyas as immigrants from Bangladesh and the Rohingyas have been ordered to apply for the green card as Bengalis.
The Rohingyas vehemently deny the Bengali ethnic identity and as a result have ferociously denied the green card despite threats by authorities.
