Police extorted a Rohingya woman in Nagpura Maungdaw, according to our local correspondent.
On Monday, police asked Noor Bahar (57) and her daughter Halima (33) to report to the station. When they arrived, police told them that she had two sons in UAE and a daughter in Saudia Arabia but she never bothered to ‘donate’ to them.
At one point, police asked the daughter to leave saying that they wanted to speak to Bahar alone. This caused the elderly lady to faint out of fear.
Later they agreed that the women should pay a million kyats immediately and 400,000 more within 45 days.
Tabbe Md Ayub accompanied the women to the police station.
