Police have ordered Rohingyas in three villages in Akyab township not to stay out from evening to dawn alleging some locals are involved in terror activities.
On Monday, police intensified their presence in a checkpoint leading up to the villages of Dil para, Puran para and Goyalar Dil in Akyab. They said that any Rohingyas found from 6pm to 6 am will be arrested.
The announcement has caused unease as this imposes a further restriction on livelihood as locals will have to cut short fishing, wood cutting and agricultural day labour activities worsening living conditions.
Many people are too afraid to cross the checkpoint even in day light hours fearing harassment by the security forces.
