Police raided the restive village tract of Du Char Yar Taan or Kiladong for a third straight day following the murder of Md Sultan Ahmed, an Aishwaramu of the area. On Monday, police and BGP expanded their raids to include the nearby village tracts of Godusera and Dhang Hali. Here security forces went from house to house smashing windows and other structures. Many houses have been left badly damaged in the process. Terrified residents rushed inside but police pulled them out and launched into a long interrogation. They checked the temporary id cards to make sure that they were not Kiladong residents. Kiladong residents ran away following the murder in anticipation of a brutal police crackdown. Speaking over phone, a Kiladong resident said that this is not the first time that they were being searched like this. “It was of course worse in January 2014,” he said. Back then, a Rakhine mob backed by security forces killed scores of villagers in Kiladong, mostly women and children. After that, security forces launched a massive hunt for all survivors i.e. all residents of the village tract to prevent them from speaking to the media. Meanwhile police arrested the boatman of the victim at around 9am. Police accused Abu Kalam (45), s/o Md Shukkur of arranging to bring in the killers by boat. He was released in late afternoon after he reportedly bribed the police.
