Police assaulted a man as he went to the market to make a copy of important identity documents on Friday.
Hafez Ullah (30), s/o Shafi Alam of Shorna para, Maungdaw went out at evening to copy the white cards of his family. When the police noticed the Rohingya Muslim man with white cards, they took it away after assaulting him severely.
The white card is the proof of residence for Rohingyas and losing it means harassment and even jail and torture. So Hafez along with a local tabbe went to the police camp on Saturday. He paid a large amount of money to get it back.
Rohingyas have been asked to turn in their white cards by March.
