A Rohingya man named Osman was shot by unidentified gunmen in Foyezi para of Maungdaw town. He is in a critical condition.
A woman who witnessed the incident was shot in the leg after she raised a cry.
Following the incidenton Saturday, a high ranking police official told local Rohingyas to identify the gunmen and hand him over. When locals said the gunmen were unknown to them, the policeman threatened to evict all Rohingya households from the area.
The next day, police came back and told them they were protecting the gunmen and will now be evicted. But later in the day, some army officers arrived in the scene and told the police that international media attention was focused on the Rohingyas and now is not a good time to evict them.
Locals allege the injured man Osman is a drug trafficker who smuggles yaba pills across the nearby Bangladesh border with full help from the administration.
