The only caretaker present during the murder of the pregnant Rohingya woman killed in hospital, was held by the killers for more than three days, according to local sources.
Bibi Mariam is the elder sister of the victim.
Bibi Mariam, who accompanied the late Salimah Begum, the pregnant woman killed by hospital staff at Sittwe General Hospital, was missing since the murder on Wednesday.
A traumatised Bibi Mariam, the sole eye witness to the crime is unwilling to talk to anyone after being threatened and harassed by her captors for more than three days. As a result, details leading to the death of Salimah are sketchy.
Bibi Mariam risks being killed herself as she is the only eye witness to the brutal murder of the pregnant woman Salimah Begum.
28 year old Salimah Begum was admitted to the hospital on the afternoon of January 7. She died on the night, following ill treatment and torture at the hand of the hospital staff.
Earlier, the victim’s husband, who had also accompanied her to the hospital was turned out by the staff. He was not present during the murder of his wife.
Rohingyas are not welcome to the healthcare facilities of Arakan state, which are only reserved for the Buddhist population. Many desperate Rohingyas who have gone to avail medical treatment have been turned away and even killed.
The situation is especially bad for pregnant woman. Anti-Muslim groups claim that Rohingyas are on a mission to multiply their population, and Buddhists have a sacred duty to ensure this does not happen.
Thus pregnant women have become a particular target and those who dare to go to hospital often turn up dead.
The same hospital staff injected a pregnant Rohingya woman to death in April last year.
