A pregnant woman about to give birth has allegedly been killed at a government hospital.
On Wednesday, Sajida Begum (35) from Lontheen fara in Kyauktaw was taken to the government hospital in Akyab. Sajida was experiencing intense labour pains for a few days and the local midwife said she needed urgent medical treatment to save the baby.
But after she was admitted to the hospital at around mid day, staff forced the family members to leave the premises saying the presence of Muslims would upset the Rakhine patients.
Then at around 7pm, family members were notified that both Sajida and the baby had died.
Family members allege the woman was killed in cold blood by hospital staff.
Many Rohingya patients have previously been murdered in government hospitals.
