Thousands of Rohingya IDPs in Mrauk U and many areas of Kyauktaw are living in the open after government officers asked them to break their sheds.
In March this year, amidst much optimism from the UN, a 200 million presidential fund was created to rehabiliate IDPs.
But the government officers and collaborators have embezzled the entire money and there is nothing left for IDPs.
But earlier, the IDPs were told to break their houses as authorities said money would be given from this much hyped presidential fund. Once the huts were broken, the money was not handed out on one pretext after another.
Now the IDPs are left without any shelters and without the cash to raise even a rudimentary shelter. With the advent of monsoon season, many children are spending nights under rain.
