Master Ershad Ullah arrested for the murder of Md Jokir, a pro regime community leader of Khadir Beel has ‘confessed’ to his crimes.
The confession comes amidst brutal torture inflicted by the police in custody.
Earlier four men arrested from nearby Kiladong (Du Char Yar Taan) made a similar confession in regards to the murder of a policeman last year following torture. One of the arrested Abdu Monaf is nearing death, according to our latest information.
In light of the situation, villagers say that Ershad was forced to confess following brutal torture. According to police Ershad killed Jokir because ‘he was an yaba addict who terrorised the population and harassed single women’.
Meanwhile security forces have made further arrests in the crackdown. The identities of the arrested have not been confirmed.
Following the murder of Jokir, security forces have flooded the area vandalising property of innocent Rohingyas and leading to a tense situation in Khadir Beel and surrounding areas.
Ershad has a popular following among locals for his humanitarian work and commitment to justice.
