Security forces launched a raid on Godusera of Maungdaw South on Monday.
The raid focused on locating villagers who have fled from the adjoining village of Kiladong, which is tense since the murder of a pro government collaborator.
During the crackdown, security forces checked the name of the villagers to make sure they were on the government list.
At one point, a man ran away from the security forces. He was however apprehended. Upon investigation, it came out that Zahid Hossain (28) s/o Nazir Ahmed had come back from Malaysia a year ago. His name has been cancelled from the list when he went abroad.
Zahid was severely beaten and taken to custody. Locals fear that he will be tortured mercilessly.
Torture in prison is common in Arakan where more than a hundred Muslims have died in custody since 2012.
