Calm returns in the area

The Aishwaramu of the restive Rajar Bil village tract has been released by police after two weeks in custody.
Md Amin was released at around 10 am on Monday.
During this time, Md Amin was mercilessly tortured by security forces for his alleged role in aiding the escape of six prisoners from nearby Kiang Dong. Torture included his head being submerged in water till he was close to death.
Our sources however say that the prisoners escaped when some policemen under the influence of alcohol neglected to watch over them.
Amin is reputed to be a government collaborator but many say that behind the scenes he has always been helpful to the Muslim villagers. This might have invited the vengeance of the authorities.
During the torture, police regularly asked for money to put a temporary stop to the torture. Altogether the family has paid more than 2 million kyats.
Meanwhile calm has returned to Rajar Bil and nearby villages. However locals are still fearful that the situation could deteriorate anytime.
