Rakhine gangs are taking up positions in different village tracts under Kyauktaw township since Thursday.
The armed men say they are taking precautionary measures against perceived ISIL attacks on the Rakhine populace. The situation is especially worrying near the Fida para village where there is a huge presence of aggressive looking armed Rakhine gang.
Independent observers say there is no ISIL presence in the region.
The Rakhines however say ISIL militants are getting ready to rape Buddhist women and carry out terror attacks. In 2012, the rape of a woman was manipulated to cause a violent backlash against the Rohingya Muslim community resulting in the murder and rape of thousands.
In light of the current situation, the security forces have intensified a blockade on the Rohingya villages. As a result, the Rohingyas are cut off from fishing and collecting wood, the two main sources of livelihood for the beleaguered community.
Locals fear if the blockade continues, the humanitarian situation will worsen resulting in starvation.
