Fighting broke out on Sunday between the military and the Arakan Army near Kyauktaw on Sunday. This is the first time in a decade that violence has occurred between security forces and a Rakhine armed group.
The Arakan Army is believed to be based in Kachin where it operates alongside the Kachin Independence Army. However, sources say that many of their soldiers have been returning to Arakan this year.
The armed group claimed to media organisations that they have inflicted casualties on the military. These claims have however not been confirmed.
Earlier military arrested two soldiers of the outfit near Rajar Bil, Rathedaung.
