Rakhine community leaders held a huge meeting in the intersection of Hari para, Maungdaw on Tuesday.
During the meeting the police were seen turning up in huge numbers.
Rohingyas did not venture into the area fearing attacks by the aggressive looking Rakhines. It is not clear what transpired in the meeting. It is also not sure if the Rakhines belonged to a regional political party or the wider 969 movement.
Either case, both the platforms have a ferocious anti Muslim agenda and there are fears they are mobilising ahead of the Muslim festival of Eid ul Adha scheduled later this month.
Large numbers of outsiders presumably from the eastern parts of Arakan have been coming to Maungdaw and Buthidaung in the past few days raising concerns that something ominous is about to happen.
