Rakhine community leaders in Mrauk U have asked Rohingya villagers from Fut Falong in the locality not to come out of their neighbourhood. Any Rohingya who disobeys this order will be beaten and arrested, according to threats made by the Rakhine leaders.
The order comes as international humanitarian organisations carry out relief operations in the township of Mrauk U. The Rakhine leaders want the aid only for their own community and do not want the outsider world to see the condition of the Rohingyas, allege locals.
Though Rohingya Muslims are the worst hit community from floods and cyclone in Arakan state, aid has been disproportionate as the government and the majority community does their best to divert humanitarian supplies.
The blockade of Fut Falong has also cut Rohingya access from the markets and they have no way to buy essential supplies including food.
