BGP have raped two women in custody and made a series of arrests in Narayan chong, Buthidaung as residents refused to participate in the controversial census, according to our corespondent.
Two women were out tending their fields when the water supply came during the night of February 28 when BGP arrested them and took them to custody where they were raped. The two women are still in custody. BGP said they were being arrested as their names have not been registered in the census.
Then on Monday, BGP suddenly surrounded a mosque and arrested ten people. One of them, a local school teacher called Ola Maung was later released.
BGP alleges that the nine others have convinced the villagers not to take part in the census.
The census is controversial because it orders Rohingyas to register as Bengalis. Also the census has resulted in arrests, rape, torture, extortion and even the murder of a 14 year girl two days ago.
