A Rohingya refugee in the Nayapara camp of Bangladesh has been arrested for carrying illegal narcotics.
30 year Nobi Hossain was arrested on Friday by local police with ten yaba tablets. A mobile court instantly gave him a six month sentence.
A section of the refugees in the Bangladesh camps have gotten involved in the illegal yaba smuggling from Burma. Many say their involvement has tarnished the image of the entire community.
Burma is the world’s leading producer of yaba tablets and found a burgeoning market in Bangladesh. Many government officials are involved in the trade and they often reacted aggressively to attempts by Bangladesh to stop this trade.
