Police have arrested nine Rohingya Muslim children and one woman from Yangon on Saturday.
They were arrested from a vehicle at a checkpoint in the city. They are currently kept in detention. The range of the children’s age is from seven to 16.
The Rohingyas who come from an IDP camp have paid a million kyats to a broker for transporting them to Yangon, the commercial hub of the country. Under the laws of the state, Rohingya Muslims are strictly forbidden to travel from one area to another.
Travelling to Yangon is unthinkable for most Rohingyas, which after more than half a century of independence remains a foreign land.
