Cox’s Bazar, Jan, 09: Rohingya statistics survey is going to be held soon for the first time at the cost of 21 crore and 75 lakh taka. The statistics survey is going to be held at six districts and the initial work for statistics has been recently finished. The statistics include 49 questions and will immediately begin in the field. This kind of information has been received from the Chittagong Divisional Statistics Office.
According to information received from Chittagong Statistics Office, earlier the statistics census was done in the refugee camps and small Rohingya populated areas but the statistics survey was not done in other large Rohingya populated areas. The Statistics Officials said, the survey is going to take place in large process this time so that we can get the concepts or ideas of Rohingyas scattering in different areas and the money will be donated by (WB) World Bank for this statistics census. This high level statistics program of Rohingya who are living in Bangladesh is going to be done under this project. The survey will begin from January and the result will be published in March next.
According to information, UNHCR under the subordinate of (RRRC) Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner conducts the update/census program of Rohingya refugees in the camp frequently where currently live 33 thousand refugees in Nayapara and Kutupalong camps.
This statistics survey is going to be done in Rohingya populated regions; Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagarachuri and Fotuakhali districts for the first time., according to joint director of Chittagong Divisional Statistics Office. The primary activities of statistics survey of Field Test have been recently accomplished in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar and Moheshkhali.
The Sub-director, Wahidur Rahman of Cox’s Bazar Statistics Office said, Rohingyas will be benefited through the statistics census because they will have access to health care, education including national facilities and their full counts will be at our hand.
There will be total 49 questions such as; occupation, work, education and nationality at the survey. Based on definite questions, Rohingya statistics survey will be done, the concerned officials said.
According to information, the Rohingyas illegally enter Bangladesh for getting economics and social facilities since there is racial violence and subject to sorts of oppressions by the Burmese government in Arakan state of Burma but there is no correct count of it. At least there are 3-5 lakh Rohingyas in different regions of Chittagong, Bangladesh.
It was informed that 8-10 Rohingyas intrude into Bangladesh daily and for solution of Burmese Rohinya refugees and illegal immigrant problems, national strategic letter with foreign ministry step was approved by cabinet. On 6th November 2014, during the visit of Prime minister’s disaster management and relief office, it was directed to complete the counting of Burmese unregistered refugees’ list. Later, on 15th Dec 2014, during the meeting of national task force related strategic letter implementing at Cox’s Bazar, statistics Burea was given responsibility for census maintaining the international standard. In the light of it Rohingya census is going to be held in the country for the first time.
