Government officials threatened Rohingya students in Akyab with dire consequences if they seek work with the UN and international NGOs.
A student who recently graduated told Burma Times, “Government people present at our graduation ceremony told us that we are not allowed to seek jobs with the international agencies. If we do, we will be in prison for conspiring against the state.”
Authorities and Buddhist nationalists allege that the UN and international NGOs are biased towards the Muslims.
Rakhine students however face no hurdles in applying for jobs with the international agencies.
