Thai police arrested a human trafficker Hamid Ullah s/o Somiuddin on Friday afternoon as he was coming out from a mosque in Bangkok.
Hamid Ullah s/o Somiuddin is a Rohingya man from Akyab.
Locals say that Hamid was arrested six months ago but released by police allegedly after he paid a hefty bribe.
The human trafficker is notorious for selling Muslim women to the sex industry of Thailand. Among Rohingya Muslim communities especially in Akyab, Hamid poses as a religious man and promises parents that their daughters will be taken safely to Malaysia where a male relative lies for them. If they don’t have relatives, he promises a good marriage with full accordance of Islamic Shariah.
Once the girls get on the boat, he and his cohorts start raping them. Virgin women are spared because they fetch a very high price in the sex industry.
So far he has known to traffic almost 150 girls in this way.
Hamid also has associates among the Karens.
